Everyday is a Fresh Start and a Chance to Begin Again

Life is a challenge. Things can be tough for so many of us as we seek to work our way through this thing called life and overcome the many challenges that we as humans face in this world, but for some of us the challenges are even greater as we navigate it all.

Things are hard for everyone, but for some it is even more difficult.

There is mental illness, sadness, loneliness, financial difficulties, and if that was not enough then we have external troubles that we have not gone through in the past that make it all that much more difficult, like a global pandemic for instance and people who make it all much more challenging to begin again.

There are those who test our serenity and our inner peace by pushing our buttons and then we have things like the uncertainty of the world that we live in that drive us to question ourselves and what this life is all about and all of this can make this life and our quest to overcome adversity that much more of a fight, but still we must carry on.

We must wake up each morning and ask ourselves one simple question.

How can today be the first day of the rest of my life?

This is an important question. It is for sure one that we must ask each day upon awakening no matter what the previous day was like, it is a question that will become easier if we live in the moment and stay in today, but one that can pose problems if we stay stuck in the past of our yesterdays and what happened in the past.

Whether you are trying to lose weight, succeed in school or sports, advance in your chosen career, choose a new career, or overcome personal challenges, or whatever it may be — there is one thing that is true for all of it, and that is that if we start fresh each day and make each day the FIRST day then we will have a greater chance of success than if we stay stuck in how we failed yesterday or how our past has been.

Today is the only day that matters.

This is my truth. I believe that it is the truth of others as well. Starting each day like it is our first day ever is important to overcoming our problems and getting into solutions and it is the start of better things and becoming a better and more improved you.

To use a sports analogy, it is like when a football or hockey game goes into overtime and the teams start fresh again. It does not matter what the score was at the end of regulation because the game is now 0–0 at the start of overtime and what happens next is most important and in fact, what happens next is ALL that is important.

This is how I view life and the start of each day. Today is the day to restart whatever it is that you are striving for, even in a situation as impossible as a lockdown and pandemic may feel like or whatever you are fighting through and finding your way out of. Even when things are hard, we can find ways to recreate ourselves and recreate our lives.

Divorce, depression, fear, loss of loved ones and jobs, and on down the line with the curve balls that life throws our way. These things are hard to get through, real hard, but there is always a new start and a new day to get back out there and be on the firing line of life and into the solution and out of the problem.

Going back to the sports analogy, I like to think of it like a football game where the quarterback throws an interception and goes back to the bench with his head hanging. Yes, he is upset at his mistake, but he does not give up and quit the game, but instead he goes back out there for the next series and tries to make a better play — he moves on.

This is what we must do with our own lives and the things that we chase after day after day, we must never settle from what the previous day gave us and we must always strive for bigger and better things. If we regress in an area, we have to work on ways to improve and get better because there are always areas where we can get better and improve on who we are and what we do in this life.

Hope. Change. Greatness.

These are things we can be and things that we can do.

Every single day is a new chance to be different people, achieve different things, and find hope in ourselves and in our abilities. Everyday is a new opportunity for us to be the best versions of ourselves and to find out what we are made of.

A favorite quote of mine is that I did not change, I found myself and I discovered who I am and this is so true for me. We find out who we are by experiencing failure and hardships and I have learned this throughout my many times falling flat on my face.

I believe in my heart of hearts that this is where we discover who we truly are and where we find our inner strength. We find it in the hardships, in the battles, in the times of despair, and in the times we fall down. It is in these moments where we find our true selves and where we find out what we are made of as human beings and as warriors.

Today is a new day. Today is a great day. Today is your day and your moment to be your best, whatever that may be.
