As the old line goes, “A dog is a man’s best friend” and other cliche pet friendly sayings and slogans, a pet is a great therapy tool for us humans and prove time and time again to be a Godsend in times of struggle and pain as well as times of joy and triumph.

Animals provide great joy for so many and are so very helpful during difficult emotional times for many of us. The cuddling that we do with our pets when we feel stressed about how we will pay our bills, down about a loss of a loved one or a divorce, the challenges that we all face in life is so important as our pets show us that unconditional love during these hard times and are there for us no matter what.

Life can be so hard sometimes that we just need some comfort and love and for many of us we do not have that present in our lives either by estrangement of our families or a divorce or what have you and having a trusted furry friend can make all the difference in the world during these times, truly they can make all the difference.

Traditional therapy and even medications can help many of us who suffer from depression, but the love we get from our pets is what helps the most when life shows up and these amazing creatures are there for us to hold and get and give love to , nothing else matters, it truly doesn’t. What matters is that pets love us no matter what we do or who we are, when we rescue them or take them into our lives and our homes by any means, they are bonded to us for life and us to them.

I think of my cats. I rescued two of them shortly after I had a heart attack and almost did not make it. They were so vital in those early days after I got out of the hospital and proved to be such amazing medicine for me during those lonely and depressed days and then i rescued my third cat a few years later when I was dealing with something else and my third baby Peanut was also such a help during that time.

Fast forward to today where I am dealing with some other things and have been feeling emotional about life and these cats are still with me and still to this day provide much relief to me and reduce the stress and pain that exists in my life. The same is true for the dogs that I walk at the animal shelter that I volunteer at, they provide joy and distraction from the challenges of life and I know that this is true for other people too.

Pets are wonderful medicine. They are always there for us and always give us what we need, even when we do not ask for it. They are what we need and the perfect medicine for emotional hardships and the challenges that life throws our way or whatever pain that we are experiencing, they are always there to make things easier.

I am sure that you all have pets that are dear to your heart and that help you in troubling times. Cherish them and enjoy the love and comfort that they give and be grateful for this undying love and understanding that they give us as it is the best medicine available for times of stress and moments of pain and should be something we hold dear to us as these animals make everything better when everything seems to be going wrong.
