This Pandemic in the United States could have been Prevented

I have mostly written political posts and sobriety posts. My articles on politics are on very one side arguments and issues like gun control, equality, racism, and healthcare among others. Issues that people rarely agree on from the right and the left. Since this whole pandemic started I have been focusing on this virus because it is important and unlike anything we have ever seen in our lifetimes.

I wrote about the failed response by this president about a week ago, but decided I should again and that is because of his continued failure on this issue and his response that does not measure up to how a leader should act during a crisis like this. This is my fifth article on this virus and one I think we all should look at, right or left.

The fact is that Trump dropped the ball. He failed to act in JANUARY and set the social distancing guidelines in place and do a federal lockdown which could have got this under control. He has cost many lives. He did not cause the virus but his unpresidential actions and weak response made it worse. He owns many of the deaths . This was his moment and he failed. He let the country down.

We have most cases in the world and many Americans will die because of his inaction at the onset. Many will suffer thanks to his political games but of course his 🐑 think he’s “great” and the “best”.

He had a chance to right four years of division and failures but he failed here too and history will remember that.

TRUMP owns these deaths. All of us are at risk because he waited to act . He let down the American people again. He then goes and promotes unproven therapies. He is making everything worse and worse.

Trump holds these daily Coronavirus briefings as political rallies since he cannot hold actual rallies and he spreads his political agenda instead of using those briefings for their intended purpose, which is to give updates on the virus and the government’s response to the virus. This is what is supposed to happen, yet he does not do that in these briefings or at all, he does not lead during this crisis.

Trump also uses these briefings to belittle and attack reporters who ask on-point legitimate questions, he uses them to bully people, and to gain points with his base for re-eelection. He does not do what a president should do and comfort the nation during this difficult time and he does not give any hope to a country that is struggling to make it through the day and who are already suffering enough.

His actions after the crisis began have been hurtful and damaging, but it all could have been prevented and his actions that he didn’t take prior to the massive outbreak is what history will judge him on. Those actions or in this case, lack of action are what matter most as his weak and inadequate initial response to this virus and its rapid spread throughout our land have led to countless deaths.

If Trump had acted urgently instead of calling this “The Democrat’s next big hoax” then perhaps lives could have been spared and our national crisis would not be what it is today. His actions have been detrimental to our healthcare system, our economic system, and most of all they have wrecked havoc on the lives of our people.

Again, I say, Trump did not create the Coronavirus, but his inaction to get it under control and his unpresidential actions up at the podium have not helped one bit and have in fact, made a bad situation much worse and have put all of our lives at risk. If he would have acted right away then things would have been much different. Take for example, if he had taken it seriously from the get-go then perhaps things would have been different and there would have been less loss of life.

He doesn’t care about us , he cares about what’s best for him. He failed to act and no the China travel ban doesn’t matter as he waited to act in other ways and lives were lost. He remains divisive and continues to act like the same bully .

His daily lies on this virus matter , he knew before China and didn’t act . He didn’t cause the virus but his response has been weak and inadequate and his actions unpresidential.

He won’t even let the experts talk . He knows he dropped the ball and lives were lost because of his inaction. He says “testing is tremendous”. His favorite word. It isn’t adequate and never has been. Millions want tests and can’t get them. Same with medical equipment. He claims he did great things and he makes everything worse!!!

This president didn’t enact social distancing guidelines in January and called the virus a hoax , he lies daily to the American people , he belittles reporters . He is making everything worse and things couldn’t be worse . 11K dead and he cares more about his legacy than American lives . His daily press briefings are about him, not the country. Listen objectively and you’ll see that.

He uses these daily briefings to lie and to use it as a replacement for his re-election rallies. He is disgraceful . He doesn’t care about the deaths and infections. Only about his legacy and reelection. We need a real leader during this crisis and he is not it because a real leader would not gloat about how his economy was the best before the virus shut everything down or gloat about his accomplishments while bashing everyone under the sun, but instead he would comfort the country and look for real solutions across party lines.

Trump could not have prevented the virus from coming to our shores, but he could have taken steps to prevent it from becoming a national pandemic and spreading the way that it has. He could have done that and he should have done that, but he did not and as a result this is where we sit, thousands dead and tens of thousands facing that same fate.

Instead of owning up to it, he continues to blame others for the failures on the federal level that continue to happen. Like I said, the virus is not his fault, but how it has spread within our country and the response on the federal level is his fault as is his weak response and childish behavior. If he would have done things differently at the start of this or even before this and prepared us for what the experts knew was coming then we could have prevented it becoming what it has become.

In 2018 Trump let the maintenance contracts lapse for ventilators and he also failed to store sufficient medical equipment like PPEs and other needed gear in the national stockpile, he allowed the masks, ventilators, and other needed supplies to be shipped overseas, and allowed states to bid on gear and all of that is on him, it is his fault. Not to mention that he called this deadly virus “a harmless flu” for ten weeks and said no need to lockdown cities and because of this many died.

This all could have been prevented if he took it seriously from the start and did not work against the medical community and deny them their needed gear. He plays political games, he hijacks press briefings and uses them for his own political advantage and he has been and continues to be the same Trump he has been since day one. He is not being the leader we need during a crisis and continues to make inappropriate remarks at these briefings and not let the experts talk and make the right choices on how we shall proceed going forward.

This is life and death and the American people deserve better than a president who thinks of himself before the country and the many lives at stake. The American people could have been spared so much if he had only acted from day one instead of waiting weeks and weeks and calling it a “hoax” and using comparisons that science does not back up. This was his opportunity to right so many wrongs and get things right and SHOW UP for our country and yet again, he failed.

Thousands of deaths could have been prevented if we had a competent and compassionate leader like we have had during past times of crisis yet it was not because we do not and that is sad and tragic as the American people deserve better than Trump and the death and misery we are currently experiencing.
