Trump’s Failure on the Coronavirus

As all of you, I have been reeling from this virus and the devastating effects of the mayhem that it has caused. For those who are not aware of where we stand on the destruction to our country and the world that this illness has had and continues to have, let me give you a short summary of where we at this stage find ourselves in this mess.

As of this moment there have been 566,269 global cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus) and 25,423 worldwide deaths and here at home 92,932 people have it and 1,382 of our own citizens have died from it. This is our grim reality and the situation continues to get worse as the hours, days, and weeks pass and there appears to be no end in sight.

However, if you listed to the ‘President” then you would think that things were just great and that we are out of the woods. He claimed just yesterday that, and I quote, “We are nearing the end, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel and everything and everyone is going to be fine”. He stated this after also saying that he plans to open the country back up and end the restrictions around Easter.

This should concern everyone. He continues to make an impossible situation much worse and has made people more fearful rather than less. He has not handled this situation well at all from the get go and continues to put the blame on others, rather than look at where he dropped the ball and the grave mistakes that he has made.

He was given intel on this virus back in January when the cases were low overall and U.S. cases were rare and this horrible situation we now find ourselves immersed in was manageable. If Trump had acted back in the early stages when the first case in the United States was discovered, then this could have been controlled and the spread could have been prevented, but he chose to play games and that is why we are here.

Trump did not cause this virus and is not to blame for it, but he refused to act early on and that is why he is to blame for our response to it, or a lack thereof a response to it. He could have chosen a different path when we first learned of infected Americans on U.S. soil, yet chose to go the other way and be the same Trump he has always been.

He called it a “hoax” , he compared (and still does) it to the flu and car accidents, he did not take it seriously. All of that played a role in the result of us being in this unfathomable situation that we now find ourselves in with little hope of how we will get out or what is next on the horizon in this fight against this deadly virus.

Trumps’ response has been insufficient at best and a failure at worst. The way he conducts his daily briefings are similar to how he behaves in his rallies as he attacks the media for doing their jobs or Democrats or anyone else who calls him out for his lack of leadership during this time and how he was the one downplaying this at the very onset.

Then there is his insane plan to reopen the country and stop the lockdowns that we have taken to contain the spread. This plan goes against what the experts say of how we should proceed as well as basic common sense, but then again, Trump never listens to anyone’s advice nor does he ever or has he ever had any common sense whatsoever.

Trump still does not get it. He thinks this is a big joke, or uses this whole thing as a political game to score points with his supporters, but trust me that this is no game and gets worse with the passing of each day, I just wish that this guy would get that and take this seriously. It is without a doubt an issue that is serious for us all and truly life and death.

His delay in acting and desire to stop the lockdowns and have everyone as he put it “Filling churches and restaurants by Easter” is crazy and would be sure to lead to thousands more to become infected and perhaps even lead to the spread of this virus to millions of people across this nation which would have a lasting impact on life going forward.

Trump claims that the economy must be open for this nation to survive, but I am here to tell him that the economy can recover from all of this, but this nation and our people cannot recover from most of our population becoming infected. If people cannot work because they get sick then the economy would fall apart anyway and the massive amount of people that would get sick from ending these restrictions would overwhelm hospitals even more than they are now.

He has failed on this and it is just one more way that he is and always has been unfit to be president and lead this nation. His words and actions on this have not been that of a leader in the time of crisis. This is much bigger than the flu and he is making a bad situation much, much worse and putting numerous lives in danger in the process by his lies and reckless actions.
