Why I Believe in God

God has saved me from a most certain death or prison sentence and that is why I believe in him. I know that many do not believe in God because of the politics associated with Christianity and how those in some political circles use God to achieve a certain agenda but I believe that he is real and that his love saves us all.

I believe that the main problem is that God is spirituality and people often get it all confused with organized religion and that is an entirely different issue, but one that is often confused with true spirituality and the unwavering love that God gives us.

My faith in my creator comes from personal experience and how God brought me back from the depths of darkness and helped me to overcome a decade long drug addiction and overcome some mental health issues along the way, among other blessings including bringing me out of despair and homelessness and helping me to gain things internally and externally once again in this life.

I separate God from politics. I know that some are unable to that but the reason I do that is because I do not find it helpful or even connected to the topic of God and how he helps everyone. God is not political, he does not care what our political views are, he does care how we treat each other and in that sense politics does play a role in a way. It plays a role because God wants us to not do certain things and not to treat people in some of the ways some in the political world treat people.

Why do I bring up the politics of it all? I do so because politics mixed within religion is the central reason many reject God and do not believe in him, they see God as a vengeful God because of some Christians on the right using religion to hurt LGBTQ people, Muslims and others but what they fail to realize is that God loves everyone and is not about hate.

I am a liberal and I will say that I believe in God because I am able to tell the difference between the God of my heart and the God that society thinks and says exists. God has unconditional love for every human being no matter what they have or have not done and that is why I believe in him and praise him every chance I get. I also believe because of what he has done for me and what he continues to do for me, that is what it is all about, having a relationship with Jesus and building on that relationship in good times as well as in not so good times.

A lot of people say that they see no evidence of God’s existence but if they look around and look at their lives they will see that there is evidence that God is real and that he works in their lives. I know for a fact that God has worked in my life and the proof that he is real and present in my life is evident on a daily basis and I will always speak of his glory.

Our God is not a Democratic God or a Republican God. He is a politically neutral God and a God that loves us all no matter who we are or what we have done. The main reason that I believe in him is not because of what the media says about him or what celeb praises his glory or what songs say about him or any other reason other than what he has done in my life and the miracles that he gives me all of the time.

God saved me. It is as simple as that.

I know that this is not the case for many people but I just wonder who they go to either in prayer or thought when things get hard and when they want to give up on life. That is what God is for me. He is refuge in times of sadness and stress, he is the one who lifts me up when i just want to quit, he is the one who gives me hope when I feel hopeless.

One thing that we often hear is that God is everything or God is nothing and for me God is everything. God is the thing that saved me from that most certain death or prison sentence that I mentioned in the beginning. God is always good, it is life that is challenging and at times unbearable.

God makes it all bearable and the reason that I believe in him as he gives me strength to keep on going and he is the hope for my hopelessness, the power when i am powerless, and the strength for my weakness and for those reasons I am a believer in the almighty God and I will always sing his praises as if not for him then I would not be here.
